CylindricalThinWall L4
Created Monday 17 June 2013
Model energy storage and heat flow in radial direction through a thin cylindric wall.
1. Purpose of Model
This model could be used to regard energy storage of a cylindric thin wall neglecting heat conduction in longitudinal direction. Typical examples are thin tube walls.
2. Level of Detail, Physical Effects Considered and Physical Insight
2.1 Level of Detail
Referring to Brunnemann et al. [1], this model refers to the level of detail L4 because the system is modelled with the use of balance equations, which are spatially discretisised. The discretisation scheme can be defined by the user.
2.2 Physical Effects Considered
- conductive heat transfer
- energy storage
2.3 Level of Insight
No different levels of detail available.
3. Limits of Validity
- Thin walls
- No heat conduction in longitudinal direction
4. Interfaces
4.1 Physical Connectors

Basics:Interfaces:HeatPort a outerPhase
5. Nomenclature
6. Governing Equations
6.1 System Description and General model approach
The temperature and substance properties are spatially averaged over the whole component. The user is enabled to choose where the differential state of the wall should be located (inner side, outer side or center) by use of the parameter "stateLocation". The component can be discretized in longitudinal direction with no heat transfer between the single cells. For the sake of simplicity the index for the cells is omitted in the following equations.
6.2 General Model Equations
Energy Conservation
The inner energy of the storage material is calculated as follows:
With the energy balance of the wall the change of the inner energy with the in- and outflowing heat is calculated:
Depending on the chosen state location the surface temperatures of the wall material are calculated. If the state is located at inner Phase:
If the state is located in center phase:
And if the state is located at outer phase:
Depending on the option "useAxialHeatConduction" one can add axial heat conduction.
Summary
A summary record is available which bundles important component values.
